New Information and Opportunities at HydroVision 2008
More than 2,100 hydro professionals will convene in Sacramento, California, USA, this summer for HydroVision 2008. This biennial international conference focuses on relevant and timely issues affecting hydropower worldwide and offers hydro professionals a range of opportunities to explore and expand their areas of expertise.
“This is a time of tremendous development activity throughout the world,” notes Leslie Eden, president of HCI Publications, the conference’s organizer. “With the need for additional capacity and the growing emphasis on climate-friendly generation, hydropower has emerged as a key energy resource. HydroVision allows professionals from every facet of hydro to share new approaches, learn about new technology, and find solutions to common issues.”
With its innovative, multi-session format, HydroVision provides opportunities to focus on specific areas of interest. Delegates can concentrate on one of several different tracks or “mix and match” to address a wide range of concerns. Specific topic areas include:

- Hydraulic Structures and Safety
- New Development
- Ocean/Tidal/Stream Power
- Operations and Maintenance
- Policies and Regulations
- Water Resources
A Technical Papers track will complement the conference program with a focus on recent research and advances in equipment design, rehabilitation and construction techniques, plant operations and more.

Two technical tours will also be offered. The first, held prior to HydroVision on Sunday, July 13, will take participants to the Sacramento Municipal Utility District’s White Rock facility, part of the eight-powerhouse 648-MW Upper American River project.. The second, held after HydroVision, is a weekend, two night trip, which will visit two nearby facilities as well as interesting cultural sites along the way.
Throughout the HydroVision conference, delegates will also have the opportunity to visit with a broad range of industry equipment and service providers. An exhibition of nearly 300 companies will be on hand to share the latest technologies, products and services that will help shape the future of hydropower.
